My work is concerned with things that I think most people would
have some connection with, or identify with in some way.
Although mostly drawn from my own experience, I try to choose
subject matter that is pretty universal, and I hope that the work
speaks of more than just me and my own view; I would like the
viewer to recognise something of themselves or their experience
in the work. The viewer's connection to the work is very important, even to the extent that I have, at times, used the viewer as the maker of the work. Above all I want the work to be on a very accessible level. I employ various tools to try and achieve this; probably the most important of these is the fact that the work is partly if not completely textual. I use aspects of contemporary culture and everyday life; this really amounts to things that I feel people feel something about, are aware of, and have some personal experience of. |
