| The works on show are five painted plaster casts of a teeshirt
and an embossed word. The origin of the work was entirely
aimless and accidental. How much of LIFE is entirely accidental
? And how much of it ends up as aimless ? How often have you tried so hard at something, and rehearsed it over and over and over in your head, and at the crucial moment have had it all spoilt by the insensitivity of someone else ? Were they just being cruel, or were they so stupid that they just couldn't fathom it out ? You were trying really hard, it was going to be really great, and all of your hard earned imagination ended up being off axis and askew in the light of someone else's reaction. Maybe they ARE just stupid, they don't know a thing, they're not worth bothering with. But really you know that you wanted them to like YOU and you wanted them to like IT and it would have made such a difference if they'd liked and understood your thing and not, for whatever reason, fucked it all up. Is it life that's just cruel, or can other people really make that difference ? All I know is, just when you think you know, you get proved wrong. |
