David Bucknall

At present I am working with language by physically altering  the wording and format of books. This process involves cutting  away sections  of the books to reveal new, selective layers  of  text, and the process is then furthered by the use of correction  fluid to  edit  out unwanted words. The finished works are  bound  and stapled shut, trapping them in a solid, unopenable state.

There is a fine line between control and accident with this work; I  pick titles that can be altered, and then I dig into the  book with a knife, only stopping when a passage seems to link in  with the  rest  of  the text. Some of the works  are  humorous,  some contentious and some simply stupid; I'm not sure where each part relates to myself, or to the art.
